District 187 Celebrates Forrestal Elementary Ribbon Cutting

NORTH CHICAGO, IL — MAY 1, 2026

North Chicago School District 187 officially opened the new, state-of-the-art Forrestal Elementary School on Friday, May 1. This landmark facility at Naval Station Great Lakes represents a new chapter for the community and its students.

A Landmark Investment

The project was funded by a $57 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense. Designed with military families in mind, the school provides a stable, welcoming environment for students who often face frequent moves and parental deployments.

Event Highlights

  • Distinguished Speakers: Remarks were shared by U.S. Senator Richard Durbin, U.S. Representative Brad Schneider, Senator Adriane Johnson, and Captain Stephen M. Yargosz.
