D187 Elected School Board Transition Campaign

D187 School Board Elections Logos

Since 2012, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has provided significant oversight of D187, dissolving the elected school board that year and appointing an Independent Authority (IA) school board.  Thanks to the leadership of the IA and a strong administrative leadership team, the district has made enormous strides over the last few years in terms of academic improvement, support for students and families; financial stability and growth; and the overall integrity, management, and effectiveness of the district.

ISBE always planned to return D187 to an elected school board.  Because of the district’s progress and success, ISBE has gained faith in D187 and has decided to begin the transition process to an elected school board.  This transition will begin with the 2025 elections.

  • Three of the seats currently held by appointed IA Board members will be filled by newly elected members in 2025.

  • The remaining board members’ seats will be filled by members elected in the spring of 2027.

The IA Board will use the time between now and April 2025 to inform, engage, and educate the community about the district, running for office, board service, and what it means to provide stable and effective leadership for D187.
