Dear D187 Families and Students:

We are delighted to welcome back all of our terrific students and families. And if you are new to the district, welcome to the D187 family. We are excited to get to know you! 

Whether you are a returning or new family, D187 has a great year in store for you and your students! D187 is committed to continuous improvement to ensure we provide high-quality programs driven by our students' needs. We provide our teachers and staff with the training and support they need to be effective and ensure our learning spaces are optimized for student success.  

Following are just a few highlights from a much longer list of exciting initiatives and opportunities to look forward to this year.

School and classroom efforts

• We have a brand new K-5 Language Arts curriculum.

• All D187 schools have adopted the High-Reliability Schools (HRS) framework, which will support our district culture and support equitable outcomes for all of our students.

• D187 has a Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) in all schools that is a collaborative, evidence-based approach to supporting all students who are not yet at grade-level expectations. 

• We continue to support our youngest learners through Together From the Start's outstanding programs: B-3 You and Me A Watershed/ Mountain Top Project and Partners for an Early Start. These programs expose our students to developmentally appropriate practice, early literacy, math, and social-emotional development.

• Kindergarten Readiness is back! We are training teachers and implementing Play-based learning in our classrooms for our kindergarten students.

• The district's special education students are making expected academic gains equivalent to their general education peers, and we will continue to grow our practices to support these gains. We have new Special Education programs at NMSA this year.  

• D187 will continue and increase its commitment to communication, outreach, education, and support with all of our families. 

Supporting D187 adults to support our students

• D187 provides consistent, dedicated time for training and ongoing professional development throughout the school year in social-emotional learning and classroom practices. 

• We provide mentors for our newer teachers and give mentors training and professional development throughout the year, not just at the beginning of the year.

• We care about and listen to our teachers and staff by providing Quick Pulse Surveys. These surveys allow their voices to be heard and influence decisions by the district.

Creating learning spaces worthy of our outstanding students, teachers, and staff

• D187 has increased internet bandwidth district-wide.

• The district has enhanced our 1-to-1 learning program with all-new Chromebooks for kindergarten, 4th grade, and 9th grade students. 

• The Forrestal cafeteria is getting an audio-video system. 

• The NCCHS band room is getting a new audio system.

• The NCCHS main gym is getting a rear projection screen system. 

• The NCCHS computer lab updated computers for Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and other Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. 

• The district added air conditioning to most of the classrooms in the C and D wings of NCCHS. 

• New and larger bathrooms serving the main gym and auditorium were added at the high school.

• The district fully renovated the gym at Alexander, including a new floor and cooling system.

In short, D187 is ready for a great year! We are constantly enriching our programs and facilities and our support for teachers and staff so we can do more and better for our students. We are privileged and excited to get to know and educate your terrific children. Thank you for entrusting D187 with such important work for such important people.

Estimadas familias y estudiantes de D187:

Estamos encantados de dar la bienvenida de nuevo a todos nuestros magníficos estudiantes y familias.  Y si son nuevos en el distrito, bienvenidos a la familia D187, ¡estamos emocionados de conocerlos! 

¡Si usted es una familia que regresa o es nueva, D187 tiene un gran año por delante para usted y sus estudiantes!  D187 está comprometido para asegurarnos de que ofrecemos programas de alta calidad que son impulsados por las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes.  Proporcionamos a nuestros profesores y personal con la formación y el apoyo que necesitan para ser eficaces y asegurar que nuestros espacios de aprendizaje estén optimizados para el éxito del estudiante.

• Tenemos un nuevo plan de estudios de Artes del Lenguaje K-5.

• Todas las escuelas D187 han adoptado el marco de Escuelas de Alta Confiabilidad (HRS) que apoyará nuestra cultura del distrito y apoyará resultados equitativos para todos nuestros estudiantes.

• D187 tiene un Sistema de Apoyo de Múltiples Niveles (MTSS) en todas las escuelas que es un enfoque colaborativo, basado en la evidencia para apoyar a todos los estudiantes que aún no están en las expectativas de nivel de grado. 

• Seguimos ofreciendo apoyo a nuestros estudiantes más jóvenes a través de los excelentes programas de Together From the Start:  B-3 You and Me A Watershed/ Mountain Top Project y Partners for an Early Start. Estos programas exponen a nuestros estudiantes a prácticas apropiadas de desarrollo, alfabetización temprana, matemáticas y desarrollo socio-emocional.

• ¡Kindergarten Readiness está de vuelta! Estamos capacitando a los maestros e implementando el aprendizaje basado en el juego en nuestras aulas para nuestros estudiantes de kindergarten.

• Los estudiantes de educación especial del distrito están haciendo ganancias académicas esperadas que son equivalentes a sus compañeros de educación general y continuaremos creciendo nuestras prácticas para apoyar estas ganancias.  Tenemos nuevos programas de educación especial en NMSA este año.  

• D187 continuará y aumentará su compromiso de comunicación, alcance, educación y apoyo con todas nuestras familias.

Apoyo a los adultos de D187 para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes

• D187 proporciona tiempo consistente y dedicado para la formación y el desarrollo profesional continuo durante todo el año escolar en el aprendizaje socio-emocional y las prácticas en el salón de clases. 

• Proporcionamos mentores a nuestros profesores más nuevos y les ofrecemos formación y desarrollo profesional durante todo el año, no sólo al principio.

• Nos preocupamos y escuchamos a nuestros profesores y personal mediante encuestas Quick Pulse.  Estas encuestas permiten que sus voces sean escuchadas e influyan en las decisiones del distrito.

Creando espacios de aprendizaje dignos de nuestros increíbles estudiantes, profesores y personal

• D187 ha ampliado el acceso a Internet en todo el distrito.

• El distrito ha mejorado nuestro programa de aprendizaje 1-a-1 con Chromebooks totalmente nuevos para los estudiantes de kindergarten, cuarto grado y noveno grado. 

• La cafetería Forrestal está recibiendo un sistema de audio y video. 

• La sala de la banda NCCHS está recibiendo un nuevo sistema de audio.

• El gimnasio principal NCCHS está recibiendo un sistema de pantalla de retroproyección. 

• El laboratorio de computación de NCCHS actualizó las computadoras para el Proyecto Lead the Way (PLTW) y otros programas de Educación Técnica y Profesional (CTE). 

• El distrito añadió aire acondicionado a la mayoría de las aulas en las alas C y D de NCCHS.

En corto, ¡el D187 está preparado para un gran año!  Estamos constantemente enriqueciendo nuestros programas e instalaciones, así como nuestro apoyo a los profesores y el personal para que podamos hacer más y mejor para nuestros estudiantes.  Nos sentimos privilegiados y emocionados de conocer y educar a sus magníficos estudiantes.  Gracias por confiar a D187 un trabajo tan importante para gente tan importante.
